A Message From the Principal

Dear Sunrise Drive Families,

We will celebrate the work of our Sunrise Scientists next Thursday, February 5.  Students have worked to study many questions, wonderings and hypotheses. Inquiry projects will be displayed at Sunrise in the MPR from February 5 thru February 9.  Sunrise Families are encouraged to view the displays at your convenience.  Judging will take place and some students will advance to the Southern Arizona Research, Science, and Engineering Foundation (SARSEF) Fair held at the Tucson Community Center from March 9-14.

During Sunrise Science Day on February 5, students will interact with many community scientists through presentations and engaging activities. Each class will be assigned to a scientist to learn about a variety of topics such as animals, ecosystems, water cycle, healthy lifestyles and more.  A special thank you to Amy Bhola and her committee who coordinated the events.  Also, the students are thankful to Anita McGuire who answered questions, offered books and resources, and helped students fill out the registration form on Wednesdays in December.

On February 20, Sunrise Drive will celebrate Spring Chinese Festival between 6:00-7:30 p.m..  The evening will begin with a performance by our students and community members.  Then, families may eat dinner and attend a variety of Chinese culture activities.  If your family would like to order dinner, please stop by the office or use the online parent portal located on the Sunrise Drive website in the lower right corner.  The meal choices are Tofu Lo Mein or Sesame Chicken. The entrée comes with a bottle of water, fried rice, Asian salad, and two egg rolls for $6.40.  The orders will close on Tuesday, February 17 at midnight.  If you are interested in eating at the event, please consider purchasing dinner now.

Our Chinese Immersion Kindergarten through second grade students are eager to participate in the Arizona Chinese New Year Festival at UA Centennial Hall on Saturday, January 31 at 2:00.  We look forward to a wonderful performance!

Registration for residents is due on February 13^th.  Registration for Kindergarten Plus is being accepted. Please complete the registration materials and return the documents to the Sunrise Drive office. Marie Wickhorst is available to answer questions at 209-7900.
